Description
This is the set of two gold posts with a red rope. Also in silver post on its own, gold post on its own, silver set of 2 with a black rope.
A rope barrier does a different job from a belt post. A belt moves a queue; a rope sets a tone - the red carpet, the gallery opening, the hotel lobby, the VIP door.
This is two gold posts and one 2 m braided red rope: a complete span for the front of house, in polished 201 stainless steel. Add posts and 2 m ropes to carry the line further.
It stands 99 cm tall and 5.2 cm across, on a 33 cm cone-shaped base. The cone reads as a finished piece rather than a disc with a pole stuck in it - which is the point when the post is the first thing a guest walks past.
Under that finish it is built to be knocked about. The base is a steel shell filled with cement, wrapped in a moulded plastic skin that stays quiet on a hard floor and will not mark a polished one. The base alone is 8 kg; the post weighs 9 kg complete. It goes together in about a minute.
Under the top is a four-way ring that takes up to four ropes on the one post, so a line can branch, turn a corner or cross without a second post standing next to it.
Tip: Each set comes with one rope, which covers the gap between its own two posts. Join sets into one continuous run and the joins need ropes too - two sets take one extra rope, three sets take two, four sets take three. Top up here: 2 m braided ropes.

Questions & Answers
Q: What rope does it take?
A: We recommend our 2 m braided ropes - 30 mm thick with a 32 mm clip at each end, in black or red with silver or gold ends. That is what this post is built around. Our 1.5 m ropes with a 28 mm clip fit the ring as well, if you want a tighter span or you are topping up an existing set. Either way the rope hangs in a curve, so set the posts a little closer than the rope is long and let it drape.
Q: Can it go outside?
A: It is made for indoor use. You can take it outside when the weather suits and it will do the job, but it is not designed to live outdoors permanently - bring it back in when you are finished.
Q: How many posts do I need?
A: Count the spans, not the posts: every span needs a rope, and every run needs one more post than it has spans. A four-span line takes five posts and four ropes. Corners and turns each need a post of their own.
Q: Will it mark a polished floor?
A: The base is wrapped in a moulded plastic skin, so the post sits on plastic rather than on bare metal. It is the same base we use under our heavy-duty retractable belt posts.
Q: Do you sell velvet rope?
A: Braided is what we keep on the shelf and what ships by default - in our experience it holds its shape and its look a little better over time. Velvet we can do as a special order, so if that is what the room calls for, get in touch and we will sort it out.
Q: Can I put a sign on it?
A: Yes - the same post with a double-sided A4 sign holder on top is a separate product. It keeps the four-way rope ring, so it drops into a run without breaking the line.
Q: Does it need assembling?
A: It goes together in about a minute. Nothing tricky.
Q: Rope or a retractable belt?
A: It comes down to what the line is saying. A rope reads as an invitation - the guest is being received, not processed - which is why it is what goes out for a red carpet, a gallery opening or a VIP entrance. A retractable belt post is the one you want where a queue moves all day, the line changes shape, and it has to be set up and packed down quickly.
