Classic Rope Barriers
Our classic rope barrier post: a slim post on a weighted, cement-filled base — heavy enough to stay where you put it, light enough to carry by hand. Under the top is a four-way ring, so one post takes up to four ropes and can be the corner of a run or the junction where a queue splits.
Polished stainless in silver or gold, smooth black, or black with gold. A short post is stocked as well, for car displays and low exhibits where a full-height post gets in the way of the thing you are showing.
Posts and ropes are sold separately, and also as a set of two posts with one rope. Our ropes are braided; velvet can be ordered in. Post height, base size and weight are listed on each product page.

Choosing the finish
All four finishes do the same job. What differs is what the room reads them as, and how much attention they will need.
Polished silver is the neutral one. It disappears into almost any interior, it suits corporate, civic and retail spaces, and it is what most people picture when they think of a rope barrier. If you are buying for several sites and want one answer, this is it.
Polished gold reads as formal and as occasion. Hotels, function rooms, award nights, anywhere that wants the space to feel like an event rather than a queue. It is a deliberate choice and it looks wrong in a space that is otherwise plain, so commit to it or avoid it.
Smooth black is the practical one. It does not show fingerprints, it does not compete with anything, and it suits galleries, museums and any modern interior where the barrier is supposed to be invisible. If nobody is going to polish these, this is the finish that still looks right in a year.
Black with gold is the compromise, and it is a real one rather than a fudge: the black body keeps handling marks out of sight while the gold detail does the formal work. It is the common choice for venues that want the gold look without the maintenance that comes with a fully polished gold post.
Full height or the short post
The short post exists for one reason: a full-height barrier in front of something low hides it.
A car on a showroom floor, a model, a cabinet of objects, a scale display — anything where the point is that people look at the thing rather than past it. A standard post cuts the sightline at waist height and the display is viewed over a rope instead of cleanly.
Short posts also read as a softer instruction. A low rope says please stay back; a waist-height rope says you cannot come in. In a gallery or a showroom the first is usually what you mean.
They can be mixed into a run of standard posts where the display changes height, but do not mix them in a straight queue line — a run that steps up and down looks like a mistake rather than a decision.
Single posts or sets
A set is two posts and a rope, which is one complete span. Sets are the efficient way to buy a run from scratch, as long as the arithmetic is watched: two sets give you four posts and two ropes, and four posts have three gaps between them, so a third rope is needed to close the run.
Single posts are the right purchase when you are extending an existing run, replacing a damaged post, or adding a corner. A corner needs a post but not an extra rope.
If the run is likely to grow, buy the posts you will eventually need in one order. Polished finishes can vary slightly between production batches, and the difference shows most on exactly the finish people chose for its shine.
Living with them
These are moved more than people expect. Posts get carried to a function room and back, repositioned when a display changes, and stacked in a store room between events.
Carry one post in each hand rather than dragging, and set it down rather than letting the base drop — the base takes the weight and the chips show. Where posts are moved weekly, keep a trolley for them; a stack of posts carried one at a time across a venue is how the finish gets damaged and how somebody's back goes.
Classic rope barrier FAQ
Is the rope included?
Some listings are a set with a rope and some are a single post. The product page states which, and the title says so as well.
Can I mix finishes in one run?
You can, and two-tone posts exist precisely because the combination works. Mixing two entirely different finishes in one straight line usually looks unintentional; mixing by area — one finish at the entrance, another inside — reads as deliberate.
How tall are the posts?
Full height and short versions are both stocked, and the exact heights are on each product page. If you are matching posts you already own, check the figure rather than assuming.
Do they need assembling?
The post fixes to the base and it takes about a minute. Nothing beyond what comes in the box.
Can I hire rather than buy?
We sell rather than hire. A large proportion of what we ship goes to venues and event companies who buy once and use the set for years, so if you are costing a hire against a purchase, tell us the quantity and we will quote the set.
Where do the ropes and the heavier posts sit?
Ropes, clips and spares are in ropes and accessories. The taller, heavier posts are the premium rope barriers, and both ranges sit under rope barriers and queue barriers and crowd control.
