The long belt is for areas, not queues

This is the range with the longer belt, and the length changes what it is good at.

A long span covers ground with fewer posts. That is exactly what you want when the job is to close something off rather than to organise a line: a wet floor, a section being restocked, a work area, a room that is closed after hours, an aisle that is temporarily out of use. You are drawing a boundary around an area, and the fewer posts you need to draw it, the faster it goes up and the less there is to carry and store.

For an actual queue — people lining up and shuffling forward at a counter — a long belt gives the line too much slack and people drift across it. That is what the shorter-belt range is for.

Belt colour is an instruction

Two belt colours, and they do not mean the same thing.

A dark belt reads as organisation. It says the line goes this way — a queue, a route, a managed flow. It is neutral, it suits almost any interior, and people follow it without thinking about it.

A red belt reads as a stop. It says not past here — closed, restricted, do not enter. People register it differently, and in a space where both jobs are happening at once, using the two colours for the two meanings is clearer than any sign you could put up.

If you only buy one colour, buy the one that matches the job you do most often and use a sign holder on top for the exceptions.

Sign holders turn a post into an instruction

Several listings here are a post with a sign holder already fitted, and that combination does more work than two separate items.

A barrier tells people where the line is. A sign tells them what to do when they get there: which counter, what to have ready, how long the wait is, why the area is closed. In a queue, that sign is read by everyone in the line, because standing still with nothing to do is exactly when people read things.

If the barrier is going somewhere people will be standing for more than a few seconds, buy at least one post with a holder. Holders are also sold separately in the accessories range if you are adding one to posts you already own.

Buying singles or sets

A run always needs one more post than it has spans. Two posts make one span, three make two, and so on. Sets are the efficient way to start; singles are how you extend a run, replace a damaged post or add a corner.

Buy the posts you will eventually need in one order where you can. Powder-coated and polished finishes can both shift slightly between batches, and a run of posts bought a year apart does not always match under the same lights.

What is a short post for?

A lower post for a position where a full-height one would block a view or feel heavier than the situation needs — a display, a low exhibit, a space where the barrier should suggest rather than instruct.

Can I use these as a permanent installation?

They are freestanding, so they move if somebody moves them. For a boundary that must stay put, fix something to the wall instead — see the wall mounted barriers.

Do the belts have to pull out to the full length?

They extend to the length they are rated at and retract when released. Set the posts a little closer than the maximum so the belt is not sitting under tension.

Can I mix these with the heavier range?

The belts clip to the same style of receiver, so they work together. They are not the same height or weight, so a mixed run looks mixed — better to use one range per area.
