Short Queue Barrier Stanchion 62cm - Silver Post, Red 3m Retractable Belt

A single post with a 3 metre retractable belt - a crowd control bollard for marking out a queue without bolting anything to the floor. The belt pulls out of the post and clips to the next bollard; let go of the clip and it winds itself back in. One post is a starting point or an addition to a line you already have - you need two to stretch a belt between them.

The post stands 62 cm tall on a 33 cm base - a metal shell filled with cement - and weighs 6 kg in all, which is what keeps it standing steady where you put it. The silver finish is polished stainless steel.

The 62 cm height is our own spec - nobody else makes this queue barrier short. It was built for car shows, showrooms and art exhibitions, where a 92 cm bollard would hide the thing people came to look at. At 62 cm the belt reads clearly as "do not cross" from two metres away, and you can still see the whole car, or the whole painting, over the top of it.

Roping off a single car usually takes eight to ten posts - enough to walk the belt right around it with clearance on every side. That is the quantity most of our show and gallery customers order.

Questions & Answers

Q: How far apart can two posts stand?
A: About 2.8 metres. The belt is 3 m long, and the last 20 cm stays in the cassette.

Q: How many posts do I need?
A: Count the metres of queue you want to mark, divide by 2.8, and add one. A 10 metre line needs five posts; a 20 metre line needs nine. Corners need a post of their own.

Q: Will the belt clip onto a post I already have?
A: Most standard stanchions use the same style of receiver, so in practice it usually does - but we cannot guarantee it against every brand. If you are matching existing posts, order one and try it before you commit to a quantity.

Q: Can it be used outdoors?
A: It is made for indoor use. You can take it outside when the weather suits and it will do the job, but it is not designed to live outdoors permanently - bring it back in when you are finished.

Q: What is the difference between the 92 cm and the 62 cm post?
A: Only the height. The 92 cm post is the standard one and reads clearly as a barrier. The 62 cm post keeps sightlines open, so it is used where staff need to see over the queue or where a display behind the line should stay visible.

Q: Is the base heavy enough?
A: 6 kg, with an anti-slip ring underneath. That keeps the post standing steady and stops it wandering when the belt is pulled across. If you want something more substantial, our premium post has an 8.5 kg base.

Q: Does it need assembling?
A: Yes, but only just - one screw holds the post to the base. About a minute a post.

Q: Can I put a sign on top of it?
A: Yes - we make a slide-on A4 / A3 sign holder in a matching silver finish that sits on the post.
